The year was 2000, the place was New Mexico. Dave Dewbre wanted to find another source of income, he found EBay, and a product line that had a good profit margin. Mr. Dewbre did a market test and it was a success! He then decided to put up another

profit center, so Dave published an E-commerce web site that sold web visitors his items for sale. Another success! Good enough, but it gets better!
Meanwhile in Northern California, his very good friend network client, Diana Limjoco Pollard had learned advanced SEO, web design, and was publishing and building a budding new web design business. Neither one had seen or contacted the other for over 7 years! They had lost touch, however both of them had just learned how to use the Internet to find people. Suffice it to say via the Internet they found each other again, got back in contact and Diana took over as Webmaster/Designer, and search engine publicist for SiliconeWorks International.
One of Diana’s skills is getting her clients placed in Search Engines (SEO) and online Directories, so soon enough www.siliconeworks.com had a web presence on the first pages of the top search engines and directories! Dave’s web sites, along with his EBay auctions managed to provide a very decent living supplemented by his skilled Network Engineering/Installation/Consultation (LAN-WAN) consulting business in New Mexico.

In December of 2002 Dave sent Diana a new product called the NuBra, a self adhesive, strapless silicone bra. He had started marketing them on eBay
but wanted her opinion. Diana fell in love with the Nubra! Dave promised Diana that if this product sold, he would give her 50% of everything he made on it, which of course gave her the incentive to market the heck out of a product she loved any way! What a friend! Diana loved them so much she immediately placed them in Dave’s online retail store and Diana put up a new site called Nubra.net dedicated to selling only Nubra, then, a new patented self adhesive, backless, strapless bra!!. At that time his online stores were the only ones selling the Nu Bra. These sites were so well published on search engines, it was difficult to avoid it for that particular product!

Then, one evening in early September of 2003, Dave’s phone in New Mexico started ringing off the hook with phone orders for Nubra! Diana’s Email box in Arizona was filling up with order confirmations. She was sure they were under some sort of virus
attack and Dave could not figure out what Diana had done to the website to get so many phone orders. What each did not know at that moment was that Fox TV Channel 11 in Florida had released a story on the Evening News about the Nu Bra! Almost 700 online orders were placed in one hour and Dave has lost count of the phone orders.

Sounds like a dream come true? Well MOSTLY! Turns out that though Dave’s E-commerce shopping cart remained stable throughout the onslaught of orders, the orders had to be confirmed manually by a person to verify if the credit card charges were valid or not! Diana then spent a week setting up a new automated shopping cart that would
provide a
direct gateway to the credit card processors which meant that all orders coming in were pre-verified. This made the online orders totally automatic. She also modified the shopping cart so that the shippers in Los Angeles could use it easily and tracking numbers were accessible to the whole team to help with customer support.
Now comes the kicker! With so many orders flowing into a website that had previously only captured 25 or 35 orders a day, fraud alarms were set off and the Security Division of Wells Fargo froze the operating account! They suspected fraud with such a rapid order spike. Shippers had already sent out over $50,000 worth of goods to customers! It took Dave two weeks to get approval from another credit card processor while the funds coming in for new orders were going into the Wells Fargo’s $75,000 black hole! The company was quickly rescued by Dave's wholesale marketing the Nubra in 1000 piece lots to major brick and mortar retailers! Fortunately, it only took a month to get back on a positive track with their collective skills and teamwork. The bank released the frozen funds back to the company after a 180 day investigation!

The lesson in this:
If you have an E-commerce business and start to do a lot of advertising and promotions, and feel you might get surges of orders, make sure your shopping cart and credit card gateway will verify all orders coming in. Also, notify your processor that you may have sales spikes due to this advertising, and above all have a backup credit card processor!!
Dave & Diana now live in Tucson, Arizona where they formed an Arizona Corporation - Digital Webgroup, Inc. They should have written the book on how to make money on the Internet. Team work is the key!
They continue to create new global business ventures and fun adventures together. The 2 spend most of the year in their 2nd home at Subic Bay in the Philippine Islands. They have totally automated the online business so that the vast majority of the company affairs can be done from anywhere online! A true internet success story and an inspiration to us all. Go Team!
